Hi Lorraine
Nice to meet you albeit due to RA. I am fairly new too and was diagnosed in March this year. I also take metho and experienced really bad nausea at first, now fingers crossed I've got it nailed. I drink lots of water through the day before I take it and have a very light dinner, then more water again. It seems to have helped me. As for your holidays I hope you have a lovely time and enjoy the sunshine. I can only go by my hols and we just went to Center Parcs, I just paced myself when I was away but tried not to let RA stop me having a good time. I would ask your Consultant about your meds when you go on holiday.
Hope to speak again soon.
Lisa xx

Hi Lorraine Sorry you have been diagnosed with RA but welcome to the forum Methotrexate can make you feel sick. I take mine on a Saturday evening and always make sure I have something to eat with it and a glass of milk. I then sleep for the next 12 hours if I can and spend a lazy Sunday. I am then fine during the day but by the teatime I might start feeling a little nauseous so I eat some ginger biscuits. I also take folic acid in the evening which counteracts the side effects of the Methotrexate. I then take it again the following evening and then I am fine. I find that I can then have a good day on the Saturday before the Methotrexate, use the Sunday to get over it and then I am back to work as normal on the Monday. Off on holiday are we. Oh how lovely. The warmth will do your joints wonders. Don't go mad and make sure you pace yourself. A little excitement and then a rest. The biggest piece of advice I can give you for RA is rest as much as you can without giving up on your life. It will change but you can have a good life after diagnosis of RA. It is just finding the right path for you. Keep posting and it will be lovely to get to know you. Take care Jackie xx

hi Lorraine,
just wanted to say welcome to the forum,
when i was newly diagnosed i felt like i had been hit with a sledge hammer and lost half a stone in a week with the stress.
you have to give the Methotrexate a good 3 months to see if it works, sorry you are having nausea problems on it i know it's a common complaint.
i'm not aware of any problems re going abroad,
do keep posting so that we can get to know you more,
Suzanne

Thanks Suzanne, this forum is very helpful. Yes any help would be a bonus for me at the mo. Just had my other Hospital app: with Consultant, she has now added Hydroxychloroquine for me to take 1 x twice a day. Also told me to increase the folic acid to 3 tablets a week to try and combat the nausea. But apart from that I am on this waiting game. Regards Lorraine

Hi again Lorraine
I am pleased to hear you had your other appointment and got the folic acid, I take that too so hopefully it will help you with the nausea which is very unpleasant. It is getting cooler now here in Bonnie Scotland and unfortunately it affects my joints but hey ho. You will not be worrying about the weather when you go on your hols. I hope you have a lovely time and enjoy the nice sunshine.
Take care.

hi Lorraine,
yes i had 1 x 2 Hydroxychloroquine added after being on Methotrexate 6 months, unfortunately that didn't work for me of course that doesn't mean it won't do the trick for you, it's trial and error phase you are going through at the moment,
i took me 18 months to get my RA under control after i was put forward for Anti-TFN. in fact i have just been weanted off the Hydroxy now and just take 10mg Methotrexate along with Humira.
a lot of people find increasing the Folic Acid can help,
i have just realised you will be winging your way on holiday as i type, hope you have a lovely time.
Suzanne

Hi Lorraine, and a warm welcome to the forum, though I`m sorry you have RA. As others have said, MTX often causes nausea, but if it becomes a really bad problem you may find taking it in injection form might help. As others have said, pacing yourself is a good idea, whether at home or away - but sometimes easier said than done. Hope you have a good holiday, Kathleen x

Hi Kathleen and all members I had a lovely holiday and the sunshine and relaxation really did me the power of good. I am now back and ready to start the next set of tablets 1 x 2 Hydroxychloroquine. I have been taking my Folic Acid 3 times a week, this week and this seems to have sorted my nausea. Hopefully this will carry on. many thanks Lorraine x
